Toensmeier to give Keynote at Co-op Power's 10th Sustainability Summit

One way to a just sustainable future? Permaculture.  Eric Toensmeier offers his take on perennial and regenerative food production at Co-op Power's Sustainability Summit, Saturday, September 13th.  Toensmeier's approach builds soils, restores degraded land and provides essential ecosystem services that improve habitat for pollinators and creates rainwater infiltration.  Permaculture greening sequesters carbon and contributes to a just food system and self-determination.  Many are already familiar with the award-winning author of Paradise Lot, through his work with Nuestras Raices, an urban farm project based in Holyoke.  Toensmeier, an engaging speaker, seems a fitting choice.

Eric Toensmeier, permaculture pioneer and award-winning author, will give the keynote address.

This year, Co-op Power's Sustainability Summit focus is growing sustainability from one's home, backyard and into the community.  Workshops include taking steps to make your own home energy efficient, the fuels we use (biodiesel, biochar, pellets), transportation systems, and green business development and energy advocacy.  Of special note: there will be a Holyoke's Energy History with Charlie Lotspeich; an Environmental Justice Tour, and Green Streets presentation.  Three kids workshops will be led by Karen Saunders.  For complete workshop schedule and descriptions, visit www.cooppower.org.

Registration is now open for Sustainability Summit 2014, at Holyoke Heritage State Park, from 9am to 4pm.
