Mayor Narkewicz Receives a Piece of History

A historical painting of the former Mayor of Northampton James Cahillane with former President John F. Kennedy was lent to Mayor Narkewicz by the Cahillane family on Tuesday, December 18 to hang in the office for all who visit to enjoy.  The painting was commissioned by the father of former State Representative Nancy Flavin, who had been an employee of Cahillane Motors at the time.  It was the artist's rendition of a photograph taken in 1958 when Senator at the time John F. Kennedy came to Northampton to meet with Mayor Cahillane and other local political leaders. In office from 1954-1960, Cahillane was one of 2 Mayors in the United States at the time that was Irish born and bred.

At the unveiling ceremony, the Cahillane family - children and grandchildren of the former Mayor - reminisce about their father, their Irish history and John F. Kennedy.
